Everest Bank Goes Live in EFT Card Switch of NCHL

Kathmandu, Nepal - Everest Bank Limited (EBL), one of Nepal’s leading commercial banks, has successfully migrated its entire card portfolio and gone live on the EFT Card Switch operated by Nepal Clearing House Limited (NCHL). With this milestone, all card issuing, acquiring, and transaction processing for VISA card will now be routed through NCHL’s EFT switch infrastructure. The bank is also enabled to issue and acquire NEPALPAY card strengthening participation in the national card scheme enhancing nationwide acceptance across ATM, POS, and digital merchant channels. This has also given access to the international Discover cards, further expanding its domestic and global card acceptance capabilities.

The migration from its old switch to NCHL’s shared EFT Switch marks a significant strategic shift for the bank delivering multiple structural and operational benefits including operational resilience, enhanced scalability, strengthened security and cost optimization.

NCHL currently operates the EFT Card Switch & Services platform, with more than 11 member banks and financial institutions already onboarded, enabling card processing and services across domestic and international schemes. NCHL’s EFT switch processed total card transaction of over NPR 428 Billion in terms of settlement value in the last fiscal year.

Everest Bank continues to play a key role in advancing Nepal’s financial sector with a strong nationwide presence of 132 branches, 32 revenue collection counters, 4 extension counters, and 167 ATM terminals. The bank serves a large and growing base of cardholders across the country, further strengthening access to modern banking services.
