KATHMANDU: NMB Bank Limited has reported a strong financial performance for the fourth quarter (Q4) of the fiscal year 2082/83, posting a record net profit of NPR 4.01 billion and becoming one of the few commercial banks in Nepal to surpass the NPR 4 billion annual profit mark.
According to the bank's unaudited financial statements, net profit increased by 40.6 percent from NPR 2.85 billion in the previous fiscal year. The bank's distributable profit reached NPR 1.87 billion, translating into a distributable profit per common equity share of 9.08 percent.
The improvement in earnings was supported by growth in the bank's core banking business. Net Interest Income (NII) rose by 17.5 percent to NPR 9.42 billion, compared to NPR 8.02 billion a year earlier, reflecting stronger lending performance and efficient balance sheet management.
Similarly, fee and commission income climbed 16.6 percent to NPR 2.83 billion, driven by increased digital banking transactions and higher transaction banking activity.
The bank also recorded a significant rise in treasury earnings, with net trading income jumping 89 percent to NPR 681.42 million, supported by gains from treasury operations and foreign exchange business.
Key profitability indicators also improved during the review period. Return on Equity (ROE) increased to 11.58 percent from 9.34 percent, while Return on Assets (ROA) rose to 1.04 percent, up from 0.88 percent in the previous fiscal year.
The latest financial results underscore NMB Bank's continued earnings growth and strengthened operational performance, supported by expansion in its core banking business, digital financial services, and treasury operations. The record profit also reinforces the bank's position among Nepal's leading commercial banks in terms of profitability.
